I took a day off from work and decided to go north and west for the day in search of some new water and possible brook trout. With the summer off to a hot start and low warm water, it was a risky trip. I started my day at Bear Creek in Schuylkill County. The water was extremely murky color. I was not able to locate any brook trout.

Decided to work my way down to Tulpehocken Creek. The water was still cloudy but I was able to see some trout. I did not have any success on dries or nymphing. I did get an 18 inch Carp that broken my line after a few minutes of carefully trying to bring him in.

Both waters were extremely warm.

Water Temperature: Unknown, but very warm

Scotts Run Lake was stocked on 10/3, so I decided to spend the day there because it was warm and not very windy. Upon arriving at the lake, I noticed that the trout were close to the shoreline. Started with the wooly buggers but quickly changed to dry flies after noticing several risers. Was about to get 6 Rainbow Trout throughout the day and missing many more. 3 were caught on hoppers, 2 on October Caddis and 1 on a copper john.

Weather: Sun, not too windy

Walked the stretch of Pickering Creek that is stocked. Saw plenty of fish throughout the stretch but they weren’t taking anything I had. Was able to get a Rainbow on a copper john. Again, notice several fish coming up. I did manage a strike on a black midge.
