Fly Fishing Report: Pickering Creek and French Creek

With the weather finally changing down here, I decided to take the day off. I started my day off at Pickering Creek. Got absolutely nothing :angry: but saw lots of rising fish. Took a lunch break and went out to lunch with my wife. I then headed off to French Creek. I was able to get one brown trout and one rainbow. Got them on Stonefly nymph and a green woolly bugger. Got a few big creek chub which got me excited thinking I got some big trout. Water was very high and cold due to the couple of feet of snow that melted this past week. Spring finally around the corner! Nice to get out and try to get my wading legs back.

My in-laws are in from Montana for a brief visit in PA before heading down to Florida for the winter. My wife and mother-in-law went to see Leonard Cohen down at the Tower Theater. My wife and I saw him over the summer in Baltimore for his first tour in 15 years, I highly recommend seeing him. Anyways, I had a opportunity to take my father-in-law fishing so we headed to Pickering Creek for a couple of hours. We walked the stretch below and up stream from the bridge. Saw lots of fish, but there were not very active, probably due to the warm weather and sunny skies. I did manage to get 1 nice colorful rainbow on a salmon egg pattern. Nice quiet couple of hours fishing.

Spent a couple of hours at Pickering Creek near the closed bridge section. Nothing but a bunch of junk fish on White flies.

Temperatures rose up into the upper 50s today, which brought some nice bug hatches. Fished Pickering Creek from the bridge all the way up to Charlestown Road. Fish were very active on dries. Got 4 brown trout using various dry flies

Fly Fishing Report: French Creek Fly Fishing Only Section and Pickering Creek

Decided to take the day off and do some fishing at both French Creek Fly Fishing Only Section and Pickering Creek. Started at French Creek by the iron bridge and waded both down and upstream. Managed to get one trout and one monster junk fish. Ice was still an issue on the stream. Went to Pickering Creek for the afternoon which was more productive with 6 brown trout. Most were caught on San Juan and sucker spawns. Got a huge 15 inch brown trout on a copper john

Fly Fishing Report: French Creek and Pickering Creek

With temperatures climbing to 60 degrees on today I decided to take the day off and fish Pickering and French Creek. I was able to get 2 Rainbow Trout in Pickering Creek and 4 in French Creek. All were caught on San Juan or Sucker Spawns. There were bugs on the water and a few trout did manage to come up for them. I tried some dry flies.

With temperatures expected to climb to 60 degrees on Sunday, I decided to check the ice situation on Pickering Creek. There still was a significant amount of ice on the creek but I did manage to find some runs available. I fished for about 2 hours with no hits.

Fishing Report: Manatawny Creek and Pickering Creek

Started the day off on Manatawny Creek when they normally stock the trout. Saw plenty of fish rising and after a few cast with October Caddis, I realized that they were junk fish once I got a sunny. Decided to leave and give Pickering Creek a try.

Walked the stretch of Pickering Creek that is stocked. Saw plenty of fish throughout the stretch but they weren’t taking anything I had. Was able to get a Rainbow on a copper john. Again, notice several fish coming up. I did manage a strike on a black midge.

Fishing Report: Pickering Creek

Pickering Creek was stocked on 10/1. Decided to stop by after work to give it a try. Was successful in getting 3 Rainbow trout all on Green Weenies. They were coming up to the water for some flies but I could not match the hatch. Tried white flies, various caddis and midges, but no luck.

Fishing Report: Pickering Creek

Visited Pickering Creek for a few hours today. Many fish were rising. Tried sulphurs and caddis dries with many hits but no luck in bringing any of them in. Tried the usual nymphing with weenies, worms and other nymphs without any success.

A fellow fly fisherman that I knew was successful using hares nymphs.
